Stress relief and Effective Relaxation technique

Previous   2

Both the groups were allowed to make their own choice of physical exercise or meditation techniques respectively. Many in body group chosen aerobic exercise such as treadmills and using other aerobics fitness equipments.

Almost 20 member of Mind group chose the transcendental meditation few chosen traditional breathing techniques such as watching breathing and counting. The body group had an average age of 27.36 and mind group had an average age of 20.86.

At the end of the experiment list of questions from well-known questionnaires which reflected the Mind and Body related anxiety equivocally. The right hand table list few sample questions being asked to the volunteer participated in Davidson and Schwartz study program.

Mental Stress Relief By Physical Exercises

Based on the correlation between the Mind and Bodily answers scales was r=0.42. This correlation indicates that cognitive (mind) and somatic (body) related stresses scales are self-effacingly interrelated. The shared variance between them is relatively low in order to define the pattern of result as a function of different stress releasing training techniques.

Gary E.Schwartz and Richard J.Davidson concluded, the general believe of stress relieving techniques such as practice of meditation has effect only on mental stress and regular physical exercise reduces the body stress only is not totally true.

From the conducted study, both techniques meditation and physical exercise has positive effects on body and mental health improvement from depression. Which implies unless you like, there is no need to practice two different techniques if you want relief from mental stress and body related stress. Practicing physical activity alone can reduces all type of stresses.

Meditation Recommendation

Passive Meditation

The idea of Passive meditation is to allow the mind to remain 'still', and not bring it into active participation with events. In other words the person receives impressions or influences, but only as a passive spectator, and not as an actor in the scene. I recommend Osho's Passive meditation Techniques for more details. Jewish manuscripts call the passive meditation (thought-meditation) as “ Hisbonenut“ . The Passive type of meditation is principle practices “Buddhism”, especially Chinese Ch’an and Japanese Zen, as well as by Raja Yoga and some school of Taoism.

Pattern of Meditation and Physical Exercises effect on Stress Relief

From www.psychosomaticmedicine.org, Davidson and Schwartz (1) have proposed a psychobiological analysis of anxiety that emphasizes the patterning of multiple processes in the generation and self-regulation of this state. The present article specifically reviews recent research on cognitive and somatic components of anxiety.

FRom www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov. Mental disorders are of major public health significance.
