Meditation can relief both mind and body related stress is well known truth, but how many of us know that regular physical exercise can also be an effective stress relief and relaxation technique?. While conversing with my friend about the ways to relieve stresses, that question stroke me hard. Like myself many singles would be spending more time in sports club and fitness center, rather meditating somewhere in pacifying room. Stress is a source of depression and anxiety

Stress can develope as an anxiety, and it attacks anyone whether it is Second Lady Tipper Core or CBS commentator Mike Wallace. Doctors explain them as Feeling of stress - a dissatisfaction over body’s dysfunctional or some unpleasant feelings, which fails to perform in an expected way. The dysfunctional behavior can cause pain and suffering not only to those who is affected by anxiety, also to their family and  even social life too.

Cause of stress

Acute Stress: Stress that lasts a relatively short period of timeAcute stress can demand all of your energy and leave you drained. In some cases, it can even cause anxiety attacks, or states of shock requiring medical attention.

Chronic Stress:Stress that extends for a long period of time, and is often present as you perform your daily activities. Often, your body will react to this kind of stress slowly, and you might even become accustomed to a certain level of tension. This stress is particularly harmful because it can lead to ulcers, heart disease, colds, or asthma (masking the underlying cause of the stress.) This stress is often ignored until the body shows signs of it, such as an increase in the frequency of headaches or fatigue.

Cause of Depression

  • May cause emotional pain
  • Disrupts the lives of million of people like Sep 11 incident.
  • Adversely affects the lives of families and friends.
  • Reduces the work productivity and absenteeism.
  • Has a significant negative impact on the economy.

Physical and mind symptoms of depression

  • You feel sad or easily get irritated?
  • You find less pleasures or motivation for doing things than you used to feel earlier.
  • You start feeling fatigued during the day.
  • You gain or lose weight without trying.
  • You are sleeping too little or too much.
  • You feel worthless or excessively guilty.
  • You have problems concentrating or remembering.
  • You feel life is no longer worth living.

Ways to relieve Stress

All the stress relief experts consistently noted that anxiety starts from stressful work or unpleasant emotional feelings. The source of stress would be variety. In my case, when my relentless manager pushes me to hard in finishing the week load of work in 3 hours or when my girl friend sneak out with my brand new Mustang to hang out with her freaking friends. In all case if you watch the anxiety closely, they were either bodily oriented (somatic) or unpleasant feelings like frequently worry about something. In search of an answer to relieve stress, I bought this electronic book 7 Steps to a Depression Free Life and read in 4 days. Book is nothing but full of stress relief exercises and relaxation techniques. In brief Nancy Miller suggests few ways to relieve stress,they are...

  • Regular Physical Exercise
  • Taking an annual vacation from work place stress.
  • Trying the Passive meditation or think breathe count strategy.
  • Take time to notice little things in life.
  • Positive Thinking.

After reading that stress management techniques book my immediate reaction was, does regular physical exercises alone would be the ways to relieve stress?

The Psychological doctors Davidson and Schwartsz both took an experiment to find out, what would be the best relaxation technique to reduce the anxiety kinds. They both wanted to confirm that, Physical exercise has been found to reduce overall anxiety under certain situation, against general belief that, the physical related techniques and exercises primarily relaxes only body stresses and not the mind related stresses. These predictions were based on well-known principles of psychobiological specificity.So Davidson and Schwartsz gathered 77 volunteers from oxford and grouped them in two. One group (Body group) consists of 44 members was asked to do the physical exercise class daily for an hour. Another 33 members group (Mind group) had been asked to do the passive meditation once in a day for at least an hour.
